Gujarati Khichu Recipe With Ingredients | How To Make Khichu in Gujarati

Khichu is simple, easy to made, spicy and delicious healthy Gujarati Snacks. This steamed rice flour street food is very famous in Gujarat. Khichu is also known as Papdi no lot, which is dough to make traditional rice papad.

  • 5 cup Water
  • 2 cup Rice flour
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 green chili (fine chopped)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Achar Methi masala according to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

How To Make Gujarati Khichu:

  1. Heat water and add cumin seeds, green chili, baking soda and salt in it.
  2. Boil water in a pan for 10-15 minutes at medium to slow flame.
  3. Now mix flour slowly and stir continuously using wooden spoon to prevent again lump.
  4. Lid pan and keep this pan on a stove for 1 -2 minutes at slow flame.
  5. Mix it every 15-20 seconds.
  6. Serve in a dish and pour methi masala and oil in it.
  7. Khichu is ready for serve.

Kachhi dabeli is a spicy snack prepared from pav and dabeli stuffing. the stuffing is prepared by mixing boiled mashed potatoes and with other indian spices. these stuffings is then placed in between the pav with green chutney, imli chutney and red garlic chutney. dabeli is popular street food of gujarat and maharshtra, but very well popular all over india. it is usually served during breakfast and for evening snacks.
dabeli is steet food originated from gujarat. it was first sold in a place called kutch in gujarat. hence the snack got its name as kutchi dabeli. also, according to wiki, dabeli literally means “pressed” in gujarati language. probably, it is because the pav is stuffed, pressed and heated on pan before serving. also, today, you can easily find these dabelis sold one every streets and corner of gujarat. moreover, dabeli is also a popular street food in mumbai steets as well.



  • 2 tsp butter / oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 potatoes, boiled
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp tamarind chutney
  • few coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 tbsp onion, finely chopped
  • fistful of masala peanuts
  • few coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • fistful pomegranate seeds
  • 6 pav
  • 6 tsp garlic chutney
  • ¼ onion, finely chopped
  • 6 tsp tamarind chutney
  • butter for toasting
  • 1 cup sev



  1. firstly, in a large kadai add butter / oil and saute onions till they are golden brown.
  2. furthermore, add chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala powder and chaat masala.
  3. saute on low flame for a minute.
  4. then add a cup of water.
  5. also mash boiled potatoes and mix well.
  6. furthermore, add salt to taste and water if required.
  7. give a good mix and mash with a potato masher.
  8. additionally, add tamarind chutney.
  9. also add coriander leaves and give a final mix.
  10. transfer to a plate and start layering.
  11. lastly, layer with onion, masala peanuts, coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds.


  1. firstly, cut the pav in between without breaking into apart.
  2. furthermore, spread garlic chutney on one side and tamarind chutney on other side.
  3. also place some chopped onions.
  4. and a spoonful of dabeli stuffing.
  5. then toast on both sides with some butter,
  6. after that, roll dabeli over sev, coving the edges.
  7. finally, serve it immediately with some green chutney and garlic chutney.


  • firstly, note that stuffing should be mashed well.
  • furthermore, add more chilli powder to make it more spicy.
  • additionally, adding tamarind chutney gives nice sweet and tangy flavour to stuffing.
  • finally, toast dabeli just before serving.
